Calcium is a silverish white metal, quickly becoming dim in the air.
Its density is 1,55 g/cm3.
Brinnel hardness is 13,7 kg/mm2.
Melting temperature is 850o С.
Boiling temperature is 1487o С.
Calcium metal combines with water and atmosphere moisture. During this reaction hydrogen and large quantities of heat are produced, forming an explosive mixture as a result.
Calcium metal is used as:
 | reducing element from oxides and other chemical |
| compounds of different non-ferrous, rare-earth and refractory metals; |
| alloying element for production of non-ferrous alloys; |
| deoxidizer, which simultaneously combines carbon, sulfur, |
| phosphorus, nitrigen during production of high-quality steels ands non-ferrous alloys; |
| separator of argon and nitrogen during production of these gases; |
| purifier of oil and gas in petroleum industry; |
| a filler for cored wire in the form of granules and crumbs. |

Ingots of distilled calcium:
There is a shrinkage cavity in the butt end of the ingot. Ingot weight is not over 80kg. Ingot should be within the following dimensions:

Pieces, turnings,grains and granules of distilled calcium
Parameters of the range of products:
| pieces of irregular form not over 15 kg in weight; |
| turnings |
| - not over 100 mm long, |
| - not over 16 mm wide, |
| - not over 5 mm thick. |
| Some pieces not over 50 mm are allowed. |
| in the manner of fragmentation part pieces wrong form by size not more than 10 mms; |
| granules: |
| - spherical bodies with passivated surface and of irregular form, screened through sieves 1,6; 2,0; 3,0 mm (as agreed with the customer). |

Packaging and marking
Ingots, turnings, pieces, grains, granules are packed in leak-proof metal drums or barrels with easy to open upper lid.
The package has international certificate.
Drums and barrels are placed onto a transportation pallet, 9 drums or 4 barrels on each. Pallet gross wight is not over 1000 kg.
Transportation marking is done according to GOST 14192-77, GOST 19433-88 with marking classification code of dangerous goods 4.3.
Transportation
Calcium is a dangerous goods. Calcium classification number is 4312. UN serial number is 1401.
Calcium can be transported by any kind of covered transport in accordance with International Dangerous Goods Transportation Rules . It should be stored as packed in closed storage rooms. |
