Calcium

Nowadays "Chepetsky Mechanical Plant" is one of the largest calcium producers in the world and the only producer of calcium in Russia. Calcium production was established in 1949 to provide the needs of national uranium industry in metal calcium. National uranium industry traditionally used calcium reduction of uranium. Later, due to expansion of manufacturing capacity the Plant managed to enlarge calcium assortment, to improve technology and non-waste and safety production. Calcium also is widely used in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy.

The Plant producers metal calcium and its alloys in the form of ingots, lumps, turnings, grains and granules. The Plant developed procedures of producing of calcium alloys with magnesium and aluminum.

The greater part of calcium products are exported by the Plant to the main countries in the world and are highly appreciated by the foreign consumers. Quality system existing at the Plant provides the compliance with customers’ requirements.

Calcium is a metal with silver-white color, which quickly tarnishes in open air.

Density is 1,55 g / cм3.
Brinell hardness is 13, 7 kg/mm2.
Melting temperature is 850o С.
Boiling temperature is 1487o С.

Metal calcium actively reacts with water and air moisture. During the reaction it evolves hydrogen and the great amount of heat which results in generating of explosive mixture.

Metal calcium can be used as:

  • Reducing agent from the oxides and other chemical compounds of various non-ferrous, refractory and rear metals;
  • Alloying element for production of non-ferrous metals’ alloys;
  • Deoxidizing agent, which fixes simultaneously carbon, sulfur, phosphorus and nitrogen when producing the high quality steels and non-ferrous metals’ alloys;
  • Separator of argon and nitrogen when production of the gases;
  • Purifier of oil and gas in oil-and-gas industry;
  • Filling agent for cored wire.
