TVEL Corporation

The Joint Stock Company "TVEL" was established in 1996 by the Decree of the President of Russia in order to improve the productive efficiency of nuclear fuel cycle enterprises. The main activity category of the corporation is development, production and delivery of the nuclear fuel to power, research and transport reactors.

Nowadays in addition to Russia the fuel with the trade mark "TVEL" is delivered to 13 countries of European Community and CIS, and products quota reaches 17 % of the world market. At the same time the Corporation provides maximally full service packet in development, manufacturing, licensing, delivery and also operation of the nuclear fuel. The Corporation combines the whole group of Russian enterprises specializing in mining and processing of natural uranium and rear metals.

Production and selling of rear-earth metals, lithium, zirconium, calcium, tantalum and niobium occupy significant place in the Corporation business. Besides delivery to Russian market, these products are exported to the countries of Western Europe, to South Korea and to United States, Canadian and Japanese markets.

Successful development of JSC "TVEL" in many respects is connected with the active R&D. The Corporation activity is aimed most of all to improvement of reliability of the nuclear fuel, its ecological compatibility, fuel burn-up fraction and as a result, the extension of fuel life-time.

With all this going on the most important goals are the following: of ecological, radiation, nuclear and industrial safety. During all action period of the Corporation none of disturbance classified under the International scale ANIS was registered in Corporation nuclear units. Annually "TVEL" carries on the scope of measures for further decrease of pollutant emission. The Corporation has also important achievements in decrease of rate of use of natural resources, electric power, in land reclamation and wastes recycling.

Corporation Enterprises

Corporation "TVEL" incorporates 15 enterprises. TVEL contains four enterprises of technological cycle of nuclear fuel production which are well known worldwide: Machine building Plant in Electrostal, Novosibirsky Chemical Concentrate Plant in Novosibirsk, Chepetsky Mechanical Plant in Glazov and Krasnoyarsky Chemical-metallurgical Plant in Krasnoyarsk. It incorporates also 5 mining Enterprises: Priargunskoye mining – chemical association, Zabaykalsky ore mining and processing enterprise, enterprise "Dalur", "Khiagda", "Malyshevskoye rudoupravleniye". JSC "TVEL" has the representations in Ukraine and in Slovakia.

The main production facilities of "TVEL" corporation are concentrated in the following Plants:

JSC Machine building Plant in Electrostal manufactures the fuel assemblies for reactor cores for Russian and foreign nuclear power stations. The plant produces the fuel for research reactors and fuel assemblies for reactors in ice-breakers fleet of Russia. The Plant carries on the full cycle of the nuclear fuel production starting from conversion of uranium hexafluoride to uranium dioxide powder and finishing with producing of fuel assemblies. In addition to the main production the Plant produces calcium metal, magnets, tubular electric heating units and stainless steel thin walled tubes.

Novosibirsky Chemical Concentrate Plant in Novosibirsk is one of the leading Russian producers of the nuclear fuel for nuclear power stations in Russia and abroad. This Plant is also the main producer of fuel for research reactors. The main product of the Plant is nuclear fuel for VVER-1000 and VVER-440. Non-nuclear products of the Plant is represented by various highly purified lithium products.

JSC Chepetsky Mechanical Plant in Glazov in Udmurt Republic is one of the largest in the world and the single Plant in Russia producing zirconium and zirconium alloy products. This is one of the main activities of the Plant. In addition ChMP carries on processing of all kinds of natural uranium raw material and uranium tetra fluoride and manufactures depleted uranium products. The Plant also produces assembly channels for Russian nuclear power stations with RBMK reactors; calcium metal and calcium base alloys and chemical compounds. The Plant has production of rear and rear-earth metals and rear and rear earth metals base articles and compounds.

JSC Krasnoyarsky Chemical-metallurgical Plant in Krasnoyarsk produces uranium products to deliver to industrial enterprises of the TVEL Corporation. The Plant possesses the unique technology of the extraction of alkaline rear-earth metals – lithium, rubidium, cesium and gallium. The Plant produces synthetic granulated zeolites and building lime.

The mining enterprises of TVEL Corporation are aimed at long term and stable fulfilling of demands in natural uranium. Besides uranium, the mining enterprises are engaged in mining of fluorite and gold and in processing and producing of various concentrates.

To improve the efficiency of management of the mining enterprises in Corporation, holding of shares of all mining enterprises of TVEL were handed over into asset management of JSC Priargunskoye mining – chemical association. This resulted in substantial effectiveness increase of Corporation whole mining system.
